Stonebridge At Montgomery Offering English as a Second Language (ESL) Program to Employees for Second Consecutive Year
February 16, 2024Stonebridge at Montgomery will be offering employees the opportunity to take part in a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program for the second consecutive year. This program will help strengthen proficiency in writing, reading, comprehension, and speaking of the English language for employees who are non-native English speakers. The goal is to enhance communication, confidence, and productivity so that employees can better achieve their professional, personal, and economic goals. This program is made possible thanks to a generous grant to the Springpoint Foundation from Bloomberg.
The Springpoint Foundation strives to make life better for older adults through high-quality services and programs. This is primarily accomplished through charitable support of Springpoint’s resident and community partnership programs, which include affordable housing support, resident financial assistance, and health and wellness services.
The Foundation first partnered with Bloomberg in 2023 to launch Stonebridge’s ESL program. Bloomberg Philanthropies works to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people by focusing on five key areas: the arts, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health. Bloomberg has been a supporter of the Foundation for over 10 years and has provided substantial funding for several community programs and projects. To date, Bloomberg has donated over $100,000 to the Springpoint Foundation.
The Stonebridge ESL program is offered to all eligible Stonebridge at Montgomery employees through inlingua, an international language training organization. In 2023, eight employees participated in the program and will continue their studies at Stonebridge. A maximum of 10 employees will be accepted in 2024, and they will attend weekly instructor-led ESL classes held at the community. Each session lasts from 45 minutes to an hour.
For those interested in the program, Maurice Sasson (Director of inlingua) conducts an initial evaluation to determine the individual’s starting level, either beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Accepted participants are then paired with other employees in the appropriate ESL group class.
Other Springpoint Foundation initiatives include affordable housing support, resident financial assistance, and health and wellness services.
The Stonebridge ESL program aids in strengthening the connections and engagement between employees and those they serve by eliminating linguistic barriers and communication obstacles. This is just one example of Springpoint’s commitment to offering exceptional services and innovative programs that empower those we serve and those who serve them to experience the best that life has to offer.
